iComic 4 in action

I've made a Quicktime movie showing iComic 4 aka iComic Dashboard Edition (I may stick with the Dashboard Edition moniker in case I end up revving the regular version too). Click the image below to open the movie in a new window.

iComic Dashboard Edition movie
The movie runs at 1024x768 and is 6.2MB in size

Development continues and there are still some wrinkles, but this shows a good idea of the base functionality.

Looks cool. I can't wait to try it out.

Did you draw the head on the about page?

The head came from some clipart, but only as part of a larger drawing... I think he was barbequeing or something

So how do you change which comic you're viewing? Does it come up as individual dashboard gadgets for each strip or is there a "switch strip" button other than the one at the back of the gadget?

You can no longer view the comments in the plugin page.

Little Gamers no longer works, as well as Penny Arcade.

If only there was a forum if only.

I'm currently running a developer's release of panther. Do you need help beta testing? (I'm also debugging an icomic plugin for One Big Happy, btw).

Do you mean Tiger?

The Dashboard Edition files are now uploaded at the iComic group...

Oops! Sorry, typo.

Cool, I'll check them out. Thanks.

Very nice!

Where can I get those McD icons??

I made the icons myself. I've put them at:

I have the iComic Dashboard Widget installed but I can not change the comis. I downloaded the Userfriendly from the yahoo group and installed it in the plugin directory (copied the folder). But I still can not chose it from the drop-down list on the widget. Any hint on what I'm doing wrong?

I can only get Dilbert on the IComic Widget. Since I can't change it to another comic strip, I'd like to delete the Widget. How do I do that?

To remove a user-installed widget, go to ~/Library/Widgets (Library/Widgets from your home folder). You should find iComic.wdgt in there.

Thomas,

You can only use iComic Dashboard Edition plugins. The old 3.0 plugins won't work.

Crashes. Constantly.

Great idea though. Hope you get the wrinkles out of it.

Robin -- yeah, it had a silly bug. I just uploaded a fix (4.0.11)

May I take this opportunity to nominate Bill Griffin's Zippy the Pinhead strip for inclusion? I'm not sure how to write one of these plug-in gizmos, but if somebody else wants to do it, the daily Zippy is available at http://zippythepinhead.com/.

"Why don't they stop and smell th' hard drive?" Zippy, 1/95.
